Setting Voxly up
- Install Voxly from Google Play. You need Android 12 or newer.
- Open Voxly and choose the language you want to write in.
- Follow the setup prompts to allow microphone access and enable Voxly in Android’s keyboard settings. Select Voxly as your active keyboard.
- Sign in with Google to use voice credits and purchases.
- Open a text box in another app. Hold the mic on the Voxly toolbar, speak, then release. Review the text before sending.
If another keyboard appears, tap Android’s keyboard switcher and choose Voxly. You can change your output language later in Voxly Settings.
Speaking and typing
Hold the mic and speak. When you let go, Voxly transcribes what you said and types it into the field you were in.
The two buttons to the right of the mic control what comes out:
- EN / Z switches between plain, direct English and Gen Z texting style.
- The globe switches between English out, your chosen language in its own script, and, for supported languages, your chosen language written in English letters. On the languages that have a script keyboard, this also swaps the keys, so the keyboard and the voice always agree.
- Long-press the globe to write your messages in another language in English letters, such as Hinglish or Danish, without changing your keyboard. Tap the language pill once to go back.
Credits
Ordinary typing is free. Voice messages and typed-text translation use credits.
- Each successful voice transcription costs 1 credit, with recordings up to 60 seconds. Each successful typed-text translation also costs 1 credit.
- New users get 25 introductory credits when they first use voice or typed-text translation. Signing in alone does not add the credits.
- Top up with a one-time credit pack in Settings. There is no subscription. The app shows available packs and your local price before purchase.
- Silence, empty results, and failed transcription or translation requests are not charged.
Settings shows your balance, and Credit history lists where every credit came from and where it went.
Translating typed text
Type your message, then tap the translate button at the right end of the suggestion bar. It shows where the text is going, for example → EN. Voxly translates the selected text or, when nothing is selected, the paragraph you are typing in, and replaces it with the translation. Review it before sending; Undo restores your original text.
- With the globe off, or when you are writing your language in English letters (for example Manglish), the translation comes out in English.
- With the globe set to your language, it comes out in your language, in its own script.
- If you picked an output language by long-pressing the globe, it goes there instead.
Each successful translation sends that text online and uses 1 credit. If the answer arrives after you have carried on typing, it waits on an Insert chip rather than overwriting what you wrote. Text longer than 2,000 characters is not translated. If you do not see the button, update Voxly from Google Play.
Using Voxly offline
Ordinary typing, local suggestions and emoji work on your device. Voice transcription, translation, GIF search, sign-in and purchases need internet access.
Common problems
“Please say something”
Voxly checks the recording before sending it, so a clip that is too short, too quiet or silent never leaves your phone and never costs a credit. Hold the mic a moment longer and speak a little closer to it.
Nothing is typed when I speak
Check your credit balance in Settings first. If you are out of credits, transcription stops until you top up. If you have credits and it still fails, check your internet connection.
The text comes out in the wrong language
The language you pick is the language that comes out, whatever you speak. Speaking Malayalam with Danish selected gives you Danish. Change it in Settings, or use the globe on the keyboard toolbar.
The keyboard does not show my script
Script keyboards are available for Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Marathi, Nepali, Bengali, Punjabi, Gujarati, Telugu, Kannada, Arabic, Urdu and Ukrainian, and appear when the globe is set to your language.
Swipe typing does not work
Swipe typing works on the Latin keyboards and the Ukrainian keyboard, in whichever of those languages you are writing in. It is not available on the Indian, Arabic or Urdu keyboards. It is also off in romanized mode and in password, email address and web address fields.
Reporting a problem
The fastest route is inside the app: Settings → Privacy & data → Report a problem. Pick a category, describe what happened, and send. The report includes your app version, Android version, device and language, all shown to you on the screen before you send it.
You can also email support@voxlykeys.com. Telling us your phone model and what you were doing at the time makes a problem far easier to find.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account and its data at any time, from inside the app, without contacting anyone. Delete your account has the steps and exactly what is removed.
